Sewing Classes for Kids is a great way for your child to express their creativity, learn to problem solve, fine tune their motor skills, practise basic maths and hand-eye co-ordination.

Actually, I’m just talking about having fun- choosing fabrics and colours, buttons and threads! Sewing is all about problem solving- figuring out what went wrong with the stitching and how to correct it. We figure out how to make ‘flat’ fabric into something 3D and magical, by using numbers, tape measures and irons. I dare say something about threading needles, but I am always on hand to help thread a needle!

All types of projects are covered in class; all styles of clothing, bags, cushions and even some textile art now and then! Projects incorporate different fabrics and techniques, so that a good general knowledge is developed. The Patterns for the classes are provided, and sewing machines of all makes are used. I also show all the tips and tricks to have the machine running well. It’s best to bring your own machine so that they can learn on it, or make use of the machines that I have available.

Project timelines vary, with projects either completed within one lesson, or over two lessons. Classes are kept small, between 6-7 pupils, so that you would get the best guidance and help for the project.

I also run Ladies classes, which have all the same fun elements as the Kids Classes. The projects are usually based on a 4 week cycle, although this is just a guideline, as some projects are easier than others.

Its best to take the leap, come join us, and see where the sewing takes you!!

Kids Classes are currently being held at the Winterton Primary School, with Ladies classes are held in my Studio, in the Champagne Valley, Central Drakensberg.

Beginner and Advanced ladies, Boys and girls are all welcome, with a class to suit you!

A few reviews

My 10 year old daughter, Caitlin, LOVES going to sewing lessons on a Friday afternoon! A definite highlight in her week. She has learnt so much. Kirsten makes sewing projects so do-able and the girls feel so capable and confident! It’s fun, easy and they are learning an invaluable skill!

Since attending Kirsten’s Sewing Lessons, I no longer fear my sewing machine and have discovered functions that I never even knew it was capable of. Kirsten is a calm and patient teacher and her projects have been fun, useful and achievable.

As a confirmed NON sewer, it has been exciting to find an interest in sewing that I didn’t know existed until meeting Kirsten. Her patience and calm gentle manner has the ability to encourage even the least experienced sewer. After only attending a few lessons I now find myself feeling excited about all projects and possibilities ahead. Thank you to Kirsten for awakening this hidden form of creativity in me.
